Entertainment & The Arts
Science fiction and fantasy writer. Target audience 8-15.
What's your vision?
The novel is an adventure/fantasy book aimed for ages 8-15. It is the first book of a trilogy. Title: Logan James and the Great Six Author: Ryan J. Ward There should be a Print Version to include a back cover for paperback on Createspace and e-book version of just the front. The size is 5.25" x 8" with a .125" bleed and must have 300dpi. The book is approximately 270-280 pages (68,000 words) for an idea on spine size (also on spine please allow for a .0625" variance on either side of fold line). I describe the novel as Harry Potter without the magic but with super-powers instead. It tells the story of Logan James, a thirteen year-old boy, who months ago lost his mother in a deadly car crash. Logan typically wears a dark gray hoodie with red undershirt and khakis. He has short messy light brown hair and blue eyes. Upon arriving at an orphanage, he and a new acquaintance, Alec, stumble upon an ancient relic of two separate golden crescent-shaped necklaces. When they place the two necklaces together they're transported to a world they never knew existed. A place called Hardwicke. Alec wears suspenders and glasses, a book worm. After arrival they find residence in a town called "the Borough." It is a land with invisible protective walls surrounding it from the dark evil outside. There is only one way in and out. The Borough is a protected vast land full of greenery. There is a cliff that rests on the east side. Logan and Alec begin to learn about the world through newly acquired friends. They learn there are only Six great powers and everyone possesses one of these, including Logan and Alec. The six gifts are flight, telekinesis (mind-reading), super-strength, manimal (power of a certain animal), teleporting, and healing. Logan and Alec both have the gift of flight. The longer they stay in the Borough, questions arise as to why the invisible walls exist. Logan learns that the land wasn't always this way. It is was once peaceful and people could roam freely. It was peaceful because the six greatest individuals of each gift protected it. Hence, the Great Six. These individuals placed their gifts into six relics so one person could possess all the gifts at once, when needed. The relics are a sword for strength, boots for flight, a belt for manimal, a flower for healing, a ring for mind-reading and two-crescent shaped necklaces for teleporting (which is the relic Logan and Alec found to transport there). The relics now reside (unknown to its residence) inside the Borough's town hall Splinter Court. This place is central to the story. The structure is a castle-like building coated with the color of charcoal. There are six pillars outside of the building, each of different sizes as if they had been struck at different points. Splinter Court had two side entrance along with its main entrance in the center. The side entrances rested on what appeared to be two separate houses on opposite sides of the Building. Logan and Alec learn that a war is about to begin in the Borough. Force's outside are knocking their way in to grab ahold of the Great Six's relics. Logan must protect this place he now calls home and the family he has found in the the Borough. As far as ideas for the cover, I have had thoughts of Logan flying over the land with a picture of Splinter Court below. I have also thought of him standing outside of the Court at the six pillars. Or even a shot of him holding a sword flying to catch a dropping crescent-shaped necklace. But please be creative and have fun. Attached will be a few book covers I like as well as a map of Hardwicke with the Borough and a rough book cover I drew for fun. As far as the cover page goes I would like the title and author names to be placed similar to the Harry Potter one's attached. Thanks, can't wait to see the results of your amazing work!
As far as font positioning goes, I like how the author name is above the title in the sample covers.
