Sumphonia needs a special edition cover for its new hymnal. Regarding the design, we are suggesting a Celtic motif. Its artwork should not include religious or musical symbols. For example, the cover should not have a cross or a treble clef. Also, because of printing limitations, it is best to avoid the very edge of the cover.
The material for this cover is polyurethane, which will be stamped like the TruTone covers of English Standard Bibles. Designers should be careful to avoid extra fine detail, as the stamped polyurethane does not accommodate a high resolution die. Designers also need to be aware that there will be no foil lettering or foil artwork. In order to see examples of TruTone covers, designers should visit the Crossway Bible website. Go to http://www.crossway.org/bibles/choo…er_trutone there are nearly 100 examples of these TruTone covers that may be viewed. Designers will notice some of the covers are comprised of two materials sewn together. The editors prefer covers that use one material, not two.
The total area for the cover, which includes a back, front, and spine, has a “printable” area of 13-3/4” x 7-5/8.” The cover should have a design on the front, of course. It can have a design on the back and spine also. The front and back should have no lettering. If the spine has lettering, it should say “Psalms, Hymns, and Spiritual Songs.” But that lettering need not be part of the design. Again, designers would do well to visit the website listed above.
