We help lawyers build The Business of Law® – by increasing revenue, improving efficiency, and decreasing stress. Ed Poll is the leading expert in law practice management and the author of numerous books for individual lawyers and practices on how to more profitably manage their law practices.
What's your vision?
We need a cover for a new book targeted to lawyers, called "Life After Law: What Will You Do With the Next 6000 Days?" This book is targeted at the big population of Baby Boomer lawyers who are trying to decide what to do next. They may be ready to leave the practice of law, but perhaps they're not ready to retire and head for the golf course. The book outlines potential options (like selling a practice, closing a practice, etc.), as well as how these lawyers may want to stay engaged with the profession afterwards. The subtitle comes from research that says that most people have about 6000 days from the time they leave their main profession until they die--the question is what will they do with them? The book is a softcover, 7" x9". Our main focus is the front cover, but we'll need the spine and back cover as well. You'll need to provide print-ready artwork in InDesign files, as well as a version in .eps and PDF for us to use for marketing purposes. We've looked at a number of designs already and nothing has stood out for us yet. Here are some creative guidelines: * Retirement is NOT the end of the world. We don't want anything that implies death or going off into the sunset. *Avoid the typical stereotypical law icons: No scales of justice, no briefcases, no law books, etc. *We like rich vibrant colors. Ed's brand palette is blue and red (see his website: www.lawbiz.com). No wishy-washy pastels. *Nothing too whimsical or abstract. We like creativity, but remember the audience for this is lawyers. *We're open to using either stock photography or illustration. If you recommend a stock photo, be sure it is something that is readily available for us to license at a reasonable fee. *We've seen several designs that had roads in them. We are open to this possibility, but please make sure this doesn't look like the road to nowhere. Have a fresh approach to using a road image. *No courthouse steps, no trees--try something different. *Image should appeal to men and women. *All type covers will be considered but are not preferred. Look at Ed's store site to see the covers of previous books: www.lawbizstore.com. We'd like something clean and eye-catching. Some of his previous covers are better than others. We'd like this to be more impactful than any of the previous books. The book is ready to go to press--we need your creative ideas to make this a winner! The front cover copy is: Edward Poll Life After Law: What will you do with the next 6000 days? LawBiz logo [in white] pick this up from the website for position to start Title can be all caps or initial caps--whatever you think works best creatively.
Be creative. Be bold. But remember the audience is lawyers. Nothing too abstract. Let's see some great designs!
