Entertainment & The Arts
We write and publish adventure novels and thrillers with a strong focus on technology, action, and adrenaline. Target readers for this book are fans of William Gibson, George Alec Effinger, Bruce Sterling, and other top authors in the cyberpunk genre, as well as fans of the movies Blade Runner and The Matrix. While you’re welcome to examine any of these sources for inspiration, I’m hoping for a different enough look to make this book stand out.
What's your vision?
I need a book cover for a cyberpunk detective novel titled ‘Dome City Blues.’ The story centers around David Stalin, a tough private detective in his early thirties, living in a dystopian future version of Los Angeles. The book is set fifty years in the future, when Los Angeles is covered by a series of domes that protect the citizens from a damaged ozone layer, global warming, and a noxious atmosphere. This is a world where cybernetically-enhanced gangs cruise dark alleys, the streets are crammed with animated billboards and 3D holographic advertising. The following text from the back cover should give you some idea of the plot… LOS ANGELES: 2063 David Stalin was one of the best detectives in the business, running head-to-head with data-jackers, organ thieves, and the tech-enhanced gangs who ruled the shadowy streets of Los Angeles. He could do no wrong, until what seemed like an easy case got out of control, and left his wife dead among the abandoned ruins of old LA. After four years of self-imposed retirement, David suddenly finds himself back on the job, struggling to unravel a crime far worse than murder. This time, he’s not the hunter. As he’s about to discover, the past isn’t finished with him yet.
I’m providing five images as samples of what the world of 2063 might look like. I don’t own the rights to any of these samples, so don’t use any of them in the final design unless you can find a source to license them from. Many of my book sales are through Amazon, so I want something that will leap off the screen as a web thumbnail, as well as looking great on the full size printed book. The text on the front and back covers should be set as separate layers, so that I can edit the wording as marketing strategies for the book change over time. The book will be published as a 6x9 trade paperback on Createspace. The page count is 316. I have just uploaded a Createspace template of the proper size, in Photoshop (PSD) format. The template includes the branding/logos for the publishing imprint, along with the back cover text and an author photo/bio. These elements can be repositioned as the designers judge best.
