What's your vision?
I need a haunting cover for my young adult horror novel, SONS OF SLUDGE. I will release this both as an ebook, as well as a trade paperback through create space, so back and spine is required as well. I would like the title "Sons of Sludge" and author name "Josiah Upton" (All caps, first letter caps, or all lower case - whichever you think is most eye-catching) on the front and spine. I would also like the title on the back. Leave room on the back for a blurb and barcode (check Createspace requirements for exact placement of barcode). Please send photoshop file so I can add the blurb later. The physical book will be 5 1/2" X 8 1/2", with roughly 280 cream pages, so please design the dimensions according to Createspace requirements. Design: Sons of Sludge is about 17-year-old male Hybrid Reanimate (think half zombie) who is starting his first day of school among the living, disguised as a regular kid. His condition has 3 nearly-uncontrollable symptoms, Rage, Lust and Hunger (for human flesh) that he must suppress with medication. Major themes include: guilt, identity, and self-loathing. For the front I was thinking the Hybrid Reanimate main character, shirtless and screaming intensely, eyes shut and fists clenched, possibly hunched forward slightly. While his muscles would be constricting, he is lean, not beefy. His appearance is very important, for when he is not wearing his makeup and wig, he is completely hairless (including eyebrows), his eyes are silver (though they would be shut) and his skin is ashy gray with dark blue veins all over him. As for overall tone, I am thinking gritty and creepy. Perhaps shattered glass/mirror could be incorporated somewhere, but doesn't have to be. While I wouldn't want it to be as violent/abstract, the artwork of Seth Siro Anton always come to mind: http://www.sethsiroanton.com/gallery.html
This is the first in a planned trilogy, and in the future I would like to use similar artwork for the the other two. Impress me and you could have two more guaranteed projects!
