What's your vision?
We need a cover image for our ebook series, Grimoire. Grimoire 1: Sheep's Clothing is a Gothic horror story about a demonic plague. It should feature a young orange-haired woman (age 16-18), standing in a rainy nighttime street or alley with Victorian-style architecture in the background. She should be cupping a small, unseen object in her hands, which glows fiery-orange and lights up her face in the darkness. Wide, black-feathered wings should spread out behind her, as if there's a winged creature standing behind her out of sight. The wings shouldn't be attached to her body, but should be spread out in the same position as if she were spreading wings of her own. The title is "Grimoire 1: Sheep's Clothing" and the by-line is "By Nathan K.O. and Clint Looney", so include that text on the cover. Stock images are fine, but make sure they're from a reputable site. We're using the same cover for several books, and need to be able to change the book number and secondary title. That means we'll need a copy of the raw, editable file (in Photoshop, or your design software of choice), as well as the final .jpegs. Image Specs: -Cover must display the title "Grimoire 1: Sheep’s Clothing" (without quote marks), in a large and legible font. Font style and color is up to you, but it should pop. We want readers to see the title clearly when they look at the thumbnail image. You might want to make “Sheep’s Clothing” a smaller font than “Grimoire 1”, since it’s the secondary title. -The author's names, "Nathan K.O. and Clint Looney", should appear (without quote marks) in a smaller font. It should be legible, but smaller than the title by a fair margin. -Make sure the cover image has a height/width ratio of at least 8:5 -Make the cover image 2500 pixels on the longest side. -Make sure the cover image is at least 1400 pixels wide. This is a must, since some e-readers won't display narrower images. -We need the final image in .jpeg format. -Don’t enable any compression -Save the file at 72 dpi -Save only as RGB, not CMYK or sRGB -Save the image without color separation -Keep the file size below 2MB. Amazon takes a cut based on how large your book’s file is, and I’d like to keep that fee low. If you’ve done ebook covers and know your stuff, feel free to try different things. You can find Kindle’s official cover FAQ here: https://kdp.amazon.com/help?topicId=A2J0TRG6OPX0VM NOTE: In addition to the big .jpg we’ll use for the main cover upload, we’d like 2 other versions of the image: -A downsized version of the same .jpg to load inside the .mobi file. 600px wide by however many tall would be about right. -A copy of the raw, editable design file we can use to make changes if we want. Play with the lighting, colors and overall aesthetic as much as you like. We attached the book’s prologue in .doc, and you can read it to get a feel for the book's style if you wish. Feel free to contact us with questions and suggestions. firstname.lastname@example.org
The setting looks like Victorian London, but is NOT actually London. The book is set in a fictional world. Don't use images of obvious real-world sites like Big Ben or Westminster Abbey.

And then… they selected a winner!
This was my first book cover design and I was truly pleased by the initial offering by LaurenWelschDesign(TM). It was a standout from the beginning and only took two minor iterations to get to the final product. I showed several of the potential designs to friends and colleagues and most folks chose LaurenWelschDesign(TM) as their first choice also. Great experience. I really trust this designer in skill and imagination. This was a small $ project but I felt I received high $ results!
Along the way, they met lots of talented designers…
We think contests are a super fun way to get design.
