The Red Ribbon Rebellion - a YA epic adventure - needs a new book

Entertainment & The Arts
Imagine a tale with an epic sweep like "Lord of the Rings," set in mythical China like "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon," with a female version of the hero from "Gladiator." "The Red Ribbon Rebellion" tells the story of how one young slave girl rises to lead a rebellion against a powerful Empire. The target audience are savvy young-adult readers, 14+, mostly female. This is an incredible competitive audience segment and I believe design will be a critical part of initial word of mouth (the rest depends on the actual story!)
What's your vision?
I want this to be clear, eye-catching, but not spammy or conventional as a cover. From my research, I think the Chinese shadow puppets provides great inspiration for the style. I provide more details in the actual creative brief. This is my primary marketing vehicle so it needs to be well-designed in a way that conveys its themes and intrigues potential readers (must stand out in a positive way from other fictional ebooks). I do NOT want e-book designs used for selling non-fiction (I saw a bunch of proposals like this). I like things that are striking, minimalist, and that tell an "integrated" story combining layout, color, font and illustration.
I like ideas that are clear and compelling. One of my litmus tests is whether the book's cover makes me want to pick it up and read it, whether in small electronic format found in an ebook-store on printed. This is also an epic story, so I want it to convey the epic potential with boldness and intrigue. My other litmus is how good would this cover be as a movie poster! The story is set in mythical ancient China and so want it to convey that without being "hong kong phooey" or Chinese-menu-ish. My creative brief has much more details. Someone who likes to think holistically with a bold, minimalist approach who can tap into themes through imagery and layout.

It all began with a design brief.
A quick, interactive guide helped them understand their design style and captured exactly what they needed in their book cover.
Designers across the globe delivered design magic.
Tim F collaborated with designers to refine their ideas
When design entries come in, you can rate them so designers know what you’re looking for in your logo design.
99designs has great collaboration tools so you can pinpoint and capture your ideas
And then… they selected a winner!
Jake is an incredible designer and I can't recommend him strongly enough. I'm confident in saying that if I had gone with anyone else, the cover wouldn't have turned out nearly as well as it did. If you care about the quality of your project and you're looking for the absolute best, look no further.
Along the way, they met lots of talented designers…
We think contests are a super fun way to get design.
