What's your vision?
I'm looking for an original book cover for my book titled: Blood Cure. Underneath the title it should read: A Keira Blackwater Novel. Somewhere on the cover in smaller letters should be the tagline: Their cure becomes her curse. I want something original, stock photos are okay, but I've seen several book covers recently that have the same person on them so the stock photos are obvious, and I don't want that, so any stock photos will need to be incorporated well. The blurb on the back should read: Keira Blackwater is human. She owns a classic car shop, hangs out with her two best friends, and goes clubbing on Friday nights. Her life is pretty typical for a twenty-two year old living in a world where supernaturals live out in the open. Except for one little thing...her blood. It alone has the ability to cure the virus that created supernaturals hundreds of years ago after the Great plague, and make them human again. She's accepted what it can do, and aside from her phobia of sharp, pointy needles, doesn't think about it too often. But then her blood goes missing from the local hospital, supernaturals start turning up dead with a strange anomaly in their system, and Keira is blamed. Vampires and werewolves suddenly hunt her at every turn, and not because they want the cure. As Keira fights to prove her innocence and track down whoever is responsible, she must come to terms with the staggering truth about her birthright, all while trying to protect the people she loves the most. Will she be able to prove her innocence before time runs out? Or will she lose everything she's worked so hard for...maybe even her life. On the cover of the book I'd like to see Keira's classic car shop in the background which is an old two story red brick firehouse with the name KNB Classics on the front of the building somewhere. The building is described as being big enough to fit two cars side by side (it will need to have double doors for the cars to pull in, and also a regular sized door for people to enter through), and three cars deep - that gives you an idea of the size of the building. There needs to be a row of windows across the top, and there should be trees visible behind the building. The parking lot is gravel. I'd also like to have Keira's old truck be what she is leaning against. It is a red 1966 Chevy C10 pickup truck. Keira is Native American with long black hair, and dark brown eyes (she'll need to have a darker skin tone). I would like to either see a puma (mountain lion) lying on the hood of the truck next to her, or see the puma as a large realistic tattoo that runs up her right side (the tattoo becomes a real puma so it has to be lifelike and not cartooney). This is the description of the tattoo from my book: Her sleek puma body clawed its way up my right side with her head and right paw visible across my belly, and her left paw showed on my shoulder where the bustier didn't cover. The tattoo was so detailed it looked like you could stroke her fur and feel the strands between your fingers. Keira can either be leaning against the truck propped up on her elbows looking out at the reader, or she can have her arms crossed in front of her holding a tire iron. You can incorporate elements on the front onto the back of the book cover any way you want, or not at all. I do want a thumbnail size picture of Keira to be on the spine of the book. I am open to colors and overall feel of the book cover, but this is urban fantasy so it should be darker in tone. This is a series.
Blood Cure will be available as an e-book - I'm publishing it through Amazon's KDP. Here are their specifications: Must be JPEG or TIFF. Height/width ratio should be 1.6. Ideal dimensions for JPEG are: 625 x 2500 pixels. Ideal dimensions for TIFF are: 650 x 1000 pixels. Cover image must be less than 50MB, avoid compressing files as much as possible (recommended 72 DPI). Save file as RGB only. I am also publishing a paperback through Createspace. It will 5.5 x 8.5 trade paperback size with a .59" spine width and white paper. I am including the template below. For ideas, here is a short list of some of my favorite book covers: Chicagoland Vampire series by Chloe Neill Elemental Assassin series by Jennifer Estep Arcadia Bell series by Jenn Bennett Alex Craft series by Kalayna Price
