Entertainment & The Arts
We're a startup generative art company. We blend code, sound, and imagery to create next generation art. Think of us as the Pandora of sound and music visualization. Our product is a thumb sized media device that plugs into any HDMI port on a TV, projector, etc... Once the device is plugged in and configured it starts to draw generative imagery on the screen based on sounds in the room. The art could be abstract, geometrical, organic, fluid, photographic, anything really. Think of it like a live VJ constantly curating art to display on the screen based on the audio in the room. The images are always evolving, changing, breathing with the room. The screen is a canvas of constantly evolving art. The "studio" artists are the creative coders and visual artists collective that make up the hive mind of the internet. The user/audience can use their smartphone to up vote/down vote what is currently being displayed, similar to Pandora. The typical use case depends on the user and the sounds and music in the room. It can be used to chill or to party. If the analysis of the sound is determined to be calm then the images displayed would be tuned to a more passive experience. The TV is transformed into a meditative surface providing a soothing background ambiance to any room. If the sound and music in the room are more active in nature then the generated art might resemble something seen in a music video or a VJ live performance. Like the surface of a still lake , the generative art adapts and evolves to the atmosphere and emotion in the room. It allows you to see infinite interpretations of what your favorite music looks like giving you endless unique visualizations. To get a feel for what the generative art videos may look like watch these videos: Order from chaos: https://vimeo.com/196269431 Ghosts are dancing: https://vimeo.com/52306302 Waves: https://vimeo.com/178612704 Forms: https://vimeo.com/38017188 Symmetry: https://vimeo.com/204736859 Chris Park's Micro Photography Showreel: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RlxTOaRd9h8
The logo will be used to brand the Evolving Studio product and function as an App icon. The logo needs to convey a sense of hive intelligence, sentience, precognition , and constant change. It needs to suggest that it visualizes sound waves, audio, or music. It has a soul, a spirit, an identity, perhaps an entity that is an organism from a higher dimension -with code as it's DNA. It's always listening, learning, reacting, creating and displaying art. This could be conveyed geometrically and/or with colors, depth, perspective, multiple layers, etc... It may show a new dimension if rotated 180 or 360 degrees, or viewed in a mirror. It needs to be abstract yet at the same time be approachable and naturally comprehendible, mature and elegant but also inviting and playful. Clean, not overly noisy, but not too simple or spartan. It needs to spark interest and curiosity. It needs to be iconic yet adaptable, similar to the animated MTV logo ads of the 80's and 90's, a logo that's receptive to constant reinterpretation, signaling constant evolution. The logo and typography do not have to be separate, I think a good design would have them very tightly integrated. Think of the whole thing as an inseparable entity. Now imagine the entity being the default state for the logo. What if the entire entity could be collaboratively manipulated by ES members? It would be constantly changing as members started manipulating it’s DNA, size, shape, colors, opacity, etc… and it would gravitate towards those changes, however over time it would gravitate back towards it’s default state. It doesn't have to be flat, it could be 3D, m.c. esher-esque, holographic, with design elements signaling multiple dimensions that have some interplay with each other. It could be organic instead of geometric in nature. Think of micro organisms growing in a petri dish. What if the organisms were not biological but digital in nature? What if they were artificial cyborg organisms? How would such an organism grow into a logo? The result may be a focal point that changes as the viewers eye travels in or around the logo. It shouldn't be loud, but it most definitely has to be unique. It should be subtle yet invite curiosity. It should strive to emote a sense of awe and wonder. It must be mesmerizing. The viewers first impression should be "that looks really interesting! what is it?" followed by a desire to explore the logo and interpret the meaning behind it's symbolism. Here's the challenge: How can you design something that never gets boring? Life (evolution) gives us clues. Life is the thing that always does something different and unexpected. The only constant is change, and so it doesn’t have one look, it has a million different looks. The question is how can you capture the essence of life and constant change in digital logo? I have tried to include an abundance of references to seed your mind with ideas. You are free to do anything. Come up with something that surprises even you. We're really looking forward to seeing your submissions! Note: Please be sure to include a brief or detailed summary about your design and explain your thought process behind it. As a bonus the winning design will be featured on our blog. The designer will have the opportunity to talk about their work and what inspires them, in addition to elaborating on the design decisions and creative process behind the logo creation. Thanks for reading.
