We are an architecture firm in New York City, mainly focusing on commercial projects.
I have always felt that architecture firm’s logos are pretty boring and predictable. Most firms just use their names. My name is known in the industry, so I want to continue to use it. However, I have always wanted something that stands out as unique and different. I am open to either a clever use or adaptation of typeface and I am also not against an actual logo itself. I don't want to limit anyone's imagination. So, I am open to new ideas, colors and forms. We do a variety of different types and sizes of commercial projects - look at our website - www.kohnarchitecture.nyc Good design is very important to us. No matter what the size of the project, we always try to create the best designs we can for any particular project. What currently distinguishes us from other similar companies, is our dedication to design, reliability, our knowledge of codes and zoning and our ability to navigate projects quickly through New York City's complex bureaucracy. These are some of the traits that I want my company to be known for: - Good design - Innovation - Creativity - Knowledge - Experience - Trustworthiness To move my company forward - I want to emphasis our strength in design and innovation. I also want to keep a sense of quality, service and knowledge. My future goal is to attract larger projects that will push the envelope in design. I like folly, humor and whimsy. But that is hard to communicate in an architectural identity without looking silly. Architecture is a serious practice, and I want to be taken seriously. But, I also want my firm to look like we are creative and fun to work with. The main logo or front of the card should only say: Kohn Architecture or KOHN architecture (this can be configured any way, above or below, upper or lower case, sideways, up or down) DO NOT use K & A, or any combination of those two letters as a logo. Here are some other do’s and don’ts: DO NOT use in the logo: - Plain grids by themselves. - Warped grids by themselves - Boxes by themselves - X’s - Skylines, cities or buildings - Pyramids, Parthenon’s, Oculi, Churches by themselves - Michelangelo or Da Vinci’s famous drawings - Windows - House forms or shed roofs - Roof over the O in Kohn - Blueprint styled logos - Compasses, protractors, triangles or other predictable architects’ tools - Hammers, plumb bobs or other building tools - Stencil styled logos - Pencils, pens or other writing tools - Golden Sections and other predictable motifs. - Animals - No birds, monkeys, rhinos, deer, fish, etc. - Bird’s nests - Human forms - Striped Lettering or logos - Leaf or floral motifs - Fruit - Light bulbs - Script or ornate lettering - Crests, shields, heraldic shields, cartouches - Wings - Letters that are drawn in perspective - Perspective logos in general - Blob-like letters - Logos that look like Chinese letters I DO LIKE the following: - Clever font designs - Positive negative forms that convey a dual meaning - Natural materials and textures – like cardboard and textured paper - Fonts that overlap to create new shapes with meaning - Fonts that blend background and foreground - Fonts that are built out of patterns - Fonts that take on the characteristics of business - i.e.; a paper maker whose logo looks handmade - Embossed designs - it could be the logo or the whole design. It could also incorporate color You can use black or color. Colors I DO NOT want to use in the design: - Purple - Pink - Yellow - Red - Gold or Silver I want something new and original. A new way to project the company for the following: - Logo, - Business cards - Letterhead - Stationary - Envelopes - Architectural drawing title block (We cannot change the layout of our title block - it is mandated to be a certain way by NYC rules - however the logo/identity at the top of the page can be anything). I will upload my last business card, current stationery and title block but DO NOT use them as examples of what I want now. Thank you and I am looking forward to getting some great ideas!
