Espen3 got their new icon or button by running a design contest:
Icon for map app launching for Android/iOS

Turkompisen is a website and soon an app for Android and iOS. Turkompisen creates custom made maps for hiking, biking and cross country skiing for the Norwegian market. The app centers around the map and in the app the maps can be downloaded for offline functionality.
What's your vision?
I need an app icon for my app Turkompisen for Android and iOS. I need an icon design for both platforms. Due to the restrictions by Apple on icon design I need the icon to be square, but gloss can be applied. I will prefer entries that create one square app for iOS and one rounded corner with drop shadow icon for Android. Since the app is for hiking, biking and cross country skiing I would suggest using features such as mountains, hiking paths and contours in the icon. But I am open for other ideas. No specific colors are required. However, the app should perceived as a utility for finding your way and not for fun. The icon design should reflect this. The icon should look good for sizes between 1024*1024 pixels and 36*36 pixels. I need the icon in layered PSD file as well as PNG. Please follow guidelines for app icons by Google and Apple: http://developer.android.com/guide/practices/ui_guidelines/icon_design_launcher.html http://developer.apple.com/library/ios/#documentation/userexperience/conceptual/mobilehig/IconsImages/IconsImages.html The current map for Turkompisen can be found at http://www.turkompisen.no
