Plastic Bank got their new icon or button by running a design contest:
Symbols to Exchange Plastic Bottles for Various Items
Check out Plastic Bank's Icon or button contest…
We make plastic waste a currency to help reduce global poverty and plastic waste. We set up plastic recycling markets that allow people to collect and exchange plastic waste for cash, items, and services. We are currently operating in Haiti and will be expanding world wide very soon.
What's your vision?
We need to create signage that uses symbols to show what can be exchanged for plastic bottles. We have just added solar power to our plastic exchange markets. This allows us to go beyond just exchanging plastic for cash. Now anyone can exchange plastic bottles for cell phone charging, cell phone minutes, access to WIFI, light to study at night, and charcoal for cooking. The symbols must be large enough to see and understand from a distance. We need to create some universal symbols for these services. Not everyone can read or even speak the same language in the places we operate. There should be a symbol for each type of exchange. Plastic Bottles for Cash symbol Plastic Bottles for WIFI symbol Plastic Bottles for Cell Phone Charging Plastic Bottles for Cell Phone Minutes Plastic Bottles for Video Chatting Plastic Bottles for Cooking Charcoal The symbols should work independently but also look good side by side
I've attached a picture of the solar powered recycling market that people exchange plastic for cash, items and services. The signage would need to be visible for people walk by this location. Although we exchange many types of plastic, it will be easiest to use a plastic bottle as the main example of what can be exchanged.

Dexter was by far the best designer that I've worked with on this platform. He read the brief carefully and understood exactly what we were trying to accomplish. Throughout the process, he remained flexible with providing alternatives and making revisions. Thank you :)
Along the way, they met lots of talented designers…
We think contests are a super fun way to get design.
