Entertainment & The Arts
We are a band based in Istanbul, Turkey, playing pop/indie rock. The members are American and Turkish, all in our 30s. Our audience is 20 and 30 somethings, both Turks and expats in the city, who are into live music and foreign rock. A sampling of our original songs can be found at www.reverbnation.com/sumoballet.
What's your vision?
I would like an artistic logo, some concept art to be used to decorate our publicity materials (posters, stickers, press kit, Facebook page), and another variation/alternate logo or symbol to put on a t-shirt/hat/stamp. Originally we had been working on a very literal design- a sumo wrestler dressed as a ballerina with his arms up and holding a guitar - but most of the designs we received were amateurish. We'd like to be inspired at this point with something that stylistically reflects our sound and looks unique, eye-catching and professional. We currently have photography and some art work featured on our Facebook page (Sumo Ballet) and on the link given above, however we are quite dissatisfied with this work and would like to move in another direction. The logo should feature our name in a fun font, with blocky letters, perhaps something like Arctic Monkeys uses, with a bit more elegance. There should also be a symbol and for this we really need inspiration, something creative that can be inspired by our name, but not so literal. We have no Japanese influence, so please no Japanese styles. The Sumo Ballet name reflects more the mix of heavy and soft in our musical style, the awkward and the elegant, the rough and the refined. Our artwork should capture this somehow. For the artwork to be used in our publicity materials, Facebook page, etc., we'd like something that fits in with the logo design(s) and perhaps here there could be something a bit more literal, perhaps a sumo ballerina spinning, but something abstract and seemingly in motion, not sure about this. We are very open to other ideas and symbols. Again, we are not artists and we need inspiration, and this is why we are posting here.
