The Australia Institute is the country’s most influential progressive think tank. Based in Canberra, it conducts research on a broad range of economic, social and environmental issues in order to inform public debate and bring greater accountability to the democratic process.
What inspires you and how do you envision the design for your business?
This graphic is about proposed changes that would remove reporting of the gender breakdown of employees in large organisations. The aim is essentially to highlight the disadvantage of women in Australia.
The graphic should begin with the line
'Women make up 50% of the Australian population'
But they only make up:
'35% of manager positions'
'9.2% of ASX500 director positions'
'5% of cabinet'
It is really important that these 3 points are graphically represented and not just listed.
Then there should be a line that says
'Now there are moves to stop gender reporting in big business'
Beneath this should be a quote
' “I think actually organisations of 100 [employees] or more, reporting to an agency which is dedicated to holding data about gender, is absolutely critical as a piece of gender equality machinery in this country.” Sex Discrimination Officer, Elizabeth Broderick.
There should be a big line down the bottom that says 'Don't hide the facts'.
