JesyC got their new logo design by running a design contest:
Create a family of 3 new logos for an environmental tech start-up

What we are: The DoNation is a platform where people can make, measure and share personal pledges to do things like ‘On Yer Bike’ (cycling to work), ‘Veg Out’ (make meat a treat), ‘PC Power’ (adjust your computer power settings). This is delivered through two separate products: 1. Donate by Doing – our B2C, non-profit arm. This is a sponsorship site that replaces cash with action. 2. Do Good for Business – our B2B, for-profit arm. This is used to help companies to engage employees in sustainable actions, saving them energy whilst reducing waste, carbon and water and improving health, wellbeing, and productivity of staff. In the future, we also plan to develop Do Good for Schools, Do Good for Universities, and Do Good for Charities. Our audience: 1. Do Good for Business. The users of this are: i. Sustainability or CSR managers of medium to large UK companies. They are seeking out a tool to help them engage employees in sustainability, and are looking for something easy and fresh. Some are very tech savvy and will be up to date with all the latest tech innovations, but many will be more used to running poster campaigns and the likes. ii. Employees of their company. They range from the shop floor staff to the directors. Some are interested in doing their bit for the environment, but we’re also aiming on reaching beyond these to people who are more driven by the fun and competitive element of our programmes. 2. Donate by Doing. Users of this are i. People who raise sponsorship. They tend to be active young professionals who often have a strong interest in sustainability and the environment. ii. Their friends who are sponsoring them. This tends to be a broader group of people, with a weaker interest in sustainability. They are pledging primarily because they want to support their friend, not because they’re die hard eco warriors. They might even be put off if by making a pledge they thought they’d gain this association.
Logo types to explore
We need three designs, one for: DoNation Donate by Doing Do Good for Business We want them to have a shared visual identity, but to each have distinct variations. Something fun, friendly, and personable. We’re all about behaviour change and personal habits, so we need our logo to reflect the aura of a trusted, encouraging, reliable brand. We want it to be simple with flat colours. We want to try and have fun with it - after all, we need to add some spark to sustainability conversations. But we don’t want to be too in-your-face or silly, given that our customers are companies. They’ve got to be happy having our logo sitting alongside theirs. I think playing on the ‘Do’ would work well, using this to form an identifying ‘mark’ that pulls DoNation, Donate by Doing, and Do Good for Business together. Aside from the logo itself, we love our colourful and hand-drawn DoAction icons and the ‘floating island’ designs. So something that will sit along side these would be great. It’s important to keep the capital D and N in DoNation, as well as the Ds in Donate by Doing, and the D, G and B in Do Good for Business.
