The Spoonie Store is an e-commerce site offering medical, therapeutic
and pain relief products to individuals with chronic illness and pain.
The term "Spoonie" derives from blogger Christine Miserandino’s
short story, "The Spoon Theory," which describes her life with Lupus.
Christine uses a handful of spoons as an analogy.
For example, daily activities that healthy individuals rarely think
about doing takes a toll on people with chronic illness. A sufferer of
chronic illness starts the day with a certain number of spoons. Each
activity may cost them a spoon, so they have to ration their
“spoons” accordingly. For instance, socializing may cost a spoon,
using the stairs might cost two spoons, lifting something heavy may
cost four spoons. Some days, a sufferer may wake up with a plethora of
spoons - more than enough to last the day. On other days, they may
only wake up with many spoons but run out of them faster than they

are dedicated to supporting one another, both locally and online.
These individuals refer to themselves as “Spoonies,” hence the
store’s name: The Spoonie Store.
