Scott2019 got their new logo design by running a design contest:
Create a minimal, beautiful logo that expresses light

We provide complete Lighting Control and Automated Shading systems to high end residential and light commercial projects (primarily residential, sometimes ultra high end) – this means, for example, that the home owner doesn’t run around flipping light switches all over the house, but instead selects “scenes” from keypads in strategic locations, e.g., they press the “Relax” button and all the lights in the area (or house) fade to a beautiful relaxing light level, or they press “Dine” and all the lights adjust for dinner. We also control the shades and draperies. Our target audience is a mix of home owners (typically a married couple in their mid 40s to mid 60s), high end builders, architects, and interior designers. Our logo needs to convey integrity above all, with great respect for design/aesthetics, and simplicity/ease of use (what we provide makes our clients’ lives easier). I have a design degree (Landscape Architecture) and it is important to convey that we care a great deal about design and aesthetics (as many of our competitors can be quite oblivious to aesthetics, and cause issues there), and this is an area where we stand out.
I love Art Deco. The opening imagery in The Great Gatsby (2013) is gorgeous, see photo (IMG_5199). The other attached image (IMG_4821) is a logo I saw in Los Angeles and liked a lot; you can also see it here: https://faithandflowerla.com/. My work is with light, so a logo that conveys light is very good. A product I primarily work with is Lutron, and their logo conveys light a bit, too: http://www.lutron.com/en-US/Pages/default.aspx The last two examples are round or round-ish logos, but I am not set on the logo being round, and don’t want to influence your creative insights too much. Something round has appealed to me a few times, that’s all. Most importantly *please* go with what you feel. My current company name is Scott Strand AVI, which is going to change in the coming year; therefore, I want to only use SS as part of the logo, or Scott Strand, or possibly no names/letters for the logo, whatever works best with the artwork. Thank you for considering my project, and for being an artist!

And then… they selected a winner!
I invited him to my contest after seeing some of his elegant designs on his profile, and in the end he submitted the winning logo. He workes very accurate and reliable, and communication was very friendly. Highly recommended!
Along the way, they met lots of talented designers…
We think contests are a super fun way to get design.
