Logo types to explore
OBJECTIVE: We are creating a brand and seek a firm logo that is clean, modern and iconic. Our design should communicate confidence and luxury, draw from architecture and fashion (rather than the "traditional", literal or conservative designs often associated with the legal industry - i.e. no scales of justice, please) and should look good on business cards, letterhead and our website. Vector EPS artwork is preferred. Creative use of dimension/depth, color and font types is a plus. Have fun and good luck! OUR FIRM: When clients are considering our firm, we would like them to think of concepts like creativity, strength, security, success, knowledge, solutions, determination and resourcefulness. RECOMMENDATIONS FOR A WINNING DESIGN: The following are merely ideas to bring this brand to life - they are by no means limitations. If you've got something that you think we should consider - please submit it. We promise to consider all submissions and will laugh at no one. ICONS (generally): In many of our submissions thus far, the logos seem to incorporate the letter "S" or "SL". That's great - but not necessary. In fact, we love the AT&T symbol. The blue and white stripped globe is separate and distinct from the words "AT&T". That said, what "icons" may be possibilities for us? We know we don't want the traditional court gavel or scales of justice. Something universal - demonstrating global solutions, light, strength, ingenuity or power. "ECLIPSE" ICON: Internally, we were toying with a lunar or solar eclipse. Very cool imagery, but (based on what we came up with) the icon lacked the simplicity of a "vector-based" logo and relied too heavily on highly intricate shading. Can anyone come up with a simple "vector-based" ellipse logo that either does or does not incorporate the "S" or "SL" letters? Just a thought... DEPTH: One last comment on the icons and "initial-based" logos. As you have demonstrated with your submissions thus far, using the "S" or "SL" can be effective. Can anyone try to "wrap" the logo around a sphere? Give it some dimension with the use of transparency, shading or color so it has some depth. We'd really like to see some examples of how this might turn out. THE ELEGANCE OF CURVES AND THE UNIQUE “HAND DRAWINGS”: For the time being, we'd like to move away from hard, perfect angles and flat "2-D" dimensions and rather move towards depth and curves. Some submissions have included a “hand-drawn” look. This may be an exciting option for some of you to explore further. Please take a look at the second example contained in our design brief (logo for “Kartamira”) – it contains an elegantly drawn “scribble” (for lack of a better term). These “hand-drawings” are one way to give us a unique presence that’s away from the hard and perfect geometric angles. We would be highly receptive to a unique “hand drawing” that captures some of the symbols we’re looking for. COLOR: Picking 1 or 2 strong (or distinguishing) colors will help establish our brand (i.e. Mountain Dew is always green and red; Home Depot is always orange and white; Coke is always Red and white). While the description above calls for elegant black, white, grey, perhaps we need a splash of "branding" color. Perhaps not… Let's give it a try. We're not a stuffy, old mahogany and brass law firm - we want to show we're modern, creative, clean and sophisticated. FONT: Same concept as our comments on color above. Picking a distinguishing font may help us establish that "brand" through repetitive use in the legal field (think Coke's cursive font or the Nike slant). Again, perhaps not… Let's give it a try and see what we can come up with. Thanks again for your efforts - we'll be checking on progress regularly. Please feel free to submit any questions to us. We're more than pleased to respond as quickly as possible. Good luck!
