Community & Non-Profit
As Toronto’s first not-for-profit, volunteer-based, in-home hospice palliative care program, our staff and trained volunteers provide compassionate care and support for people living with a life-threatening illness and their loved ones. As a registered charity, we provide our services at no charge. Since 1988, 7,220 clients have been served, directly impacting the lives of over 36,000 people. By providing and advancing compassionate care and leadership in the volunteer-based, home hospice community, Hospice Toronto has become a recognized leader in providing high-quality, hospice care and support for people through all phases of their life-threatening illness, and their loved ones. It is a very caring and supportive organization that is entirely volunteer-based, with the exception of 10 full-time employees. HT relies on a volunteer base of approx 225, and represents many different languages. We support adding life to days through our Volunteer Visiting Services, Caregiver & Bereavement Support, Expressive Arts, Young Carers programs, and through Advocacy and Consultation Services. The Hospice is preparing to launch a new fundraising initiative called “Buy the Hour”. Buy the Hour will be a program encouraging the community to donate to the Hospice through the purchase of hours of care. This initiative will run throughout the year, with a letter writing campaign specifically targeted for late fall.
