Jason.li got their new logo design by running a design contest:
Create a Suite of 5 Logos/Icons for OWASP Projects

We are an international, non-profit, radically transparent, open-source organization whose mission is to increase global awareness of application security. Our division is specifically focused on creating "projects" such as documents, software tools, and code libraries related to application security.
Logo types to explore
We are not looking for logos per say, but rather five "badges" to apply to our projects. These badges denote the status of various projects in our organization and should be something like a pictoral mark, abstract mark, or emblem. The badges will be used in print, online, in merchandise, and small scale signs or promotional materials (e.g. posters). In terms of values to communicate, badges should be gender neutral, economical, slightly modern, slightly serious, mostly simple and very obvious. Specifically, we deal with various "projects" such as documents, software tools, and code libraries in various states of maturity. These states are: * "Flagship" projects - our top tier, best projects. Should communicate maturity. * "Labs" projects - our crop of good projects that can be used, but might still be rough around the edges (think "Beta") * "Incubator" projects - brand new ideas that are still being developed without anything concrete yet. Should communicate infancy, youth, and immaturity. * "Archive" projects - projects that for one reason or another are discontinued. Should communicate inactivity. See the following document for background information on these classifications: http://sl.owasp.org/gpcws-jun11-projects-handbook#h.gef61ebkljiy We will designate such projects and would like them to be able to display this "badge" designation on their web page, in their print materials, or other promotional products. The badge is akin to a "seal of approval" or other certifying mark conveying the organization's support behind the maturity of a given project. As such, the badge should be detailed enough to function as a "logo" for branding/classification purposes, but simple enough so that it can be scaled down to function as a small icon. The badges should be themed similarly but distinct enough that at a quick glance, a consumer can recognize what badge an individual project has (no project will have more than one badge/classification at a time). In addition, we would like a logo to represent OWASP Projects as a whole. This logo will be used to signify work related to Projects as well as any artifacts and governing documents from our division of the organization. As with the other badges, we will use this in a variety of mediums. The attached image is the OWASP logo for reference.
