Vegan Grand Rapids is your definitive guide to life as a vegan in Grand Rapids, Michigan! We (Kolene and Jon) started our website (VeganGR.com) almost six years ago - originally as a restaurant guide. We were both new vegans at the time, and the site served as a guide for the local community to find vegan eats, as well as giving us, as a new couple, a fun project to work on together while exploring our city. Since then, the project has really grown into second full time jobs, where we not only still have the restaurant guide, but we also hold events around town, and consult with local restaurants and grocery stores on how they can be more vegan-friendly. In addition to that, we teach classes and hold other events, like cooking demos or vegan pop-up shops.
Our goal is to mainstream veganism, and as such, we shy away from any type of activism. We believe our success has very much come from helping people find and eat good food and not being pushy in any way. If you're interested in eating more plants because you care about the environment... cool! If you care about your own health... awesome! Animals are your thing... great! Let's all just hang out and eat great food.
Although we like our current logo, we feel that it's time for a refresh of our brand. When we started there were only four restaurants on the guide, and today there are more than forty, so we need to get a new website that can better handle the traffic and the amount of information we have to share. Our new logo will help us do just that!
We're quite particular in that because of our philosophy, we absolutely do not want any kind of vegetable, or animal, or cartoon characters. No big "V's," or plant leafs that are so often contained in "vegan" logos, please! However, we're open to different ideas, colors, etc. We like negative space logos, clean design, and clean fonts.
