We need a logo redesign for our historical preservation/grant-making organization based in San Jose, California. Our current logo is a drawing of our 1878 Victorian house (see attached file). It is way too detailed and does not reproduce well, especially in small sizes.
Our mission: We focus on two primary areas: 1) preserving our historical landmark Victorian home, and its two-acre property, as an example of California's agricultural heritage, and 2) giving grants to the local community in the areas of historical preservation, art & culture, environmental protection, and animal welfare. We celebrated our 40th anniversary this year and have given nearly $4 million dollars in grants to support our community.
Catch phrase: Preserving the past . . . Investing in the future
Target audience: other non-profits in our community who come to us for support; historical preservation groups; local government; the local community at large.
We require a design that is crisp and clean, reflects our mission and core values, and integrates our rather long name in a readable way. We don't want anything "cutsy" or with a mascot. Ours is a conservative organization, so the logo should reflect the qualities of maturity, dignity, history, stability.
For this re-designed logo, we are open to using a depiction of our Victorian house again (in a cleaner way), or to a totally new concept. Other ideas could be fruit trees (the property used to be a 1,000 acre fruit orchard), peony flowers (we have an historic Chinese tree peony garden on the property), our historic landmark status (our house is San Jose Historic landmark #11), that we have been helping the local community for 40 years (our 40th anniversary), etc.
We’d also like a new type font that looks "historical" but again is clean and easy to read (go light on the swirls and curly-qs).
