Our organization creates residential communities (i.e. co-housing) of young people living together in the Boston area. The logo should be fresh enough to appeal to young adults (mostly millennials) who might want to live in such a community AND respectable enough to inspire confidence in folks who might want to rent or sell us properties.
We want our look to be urban, young, and hopeful. Although we're affiliated with churches, the logo does not need to be explicitly religious. We've been seeing a lot of skyline logos, many of which are cool, but we're also interested in a neighborhood-level view of the city; skylines call to mind toursim and airplanes rather than urban neighborhoods, with triple-deckers jammed next to each other, corner bodegas, and kids playing in fire hydrants.
The logo will primarily be used online and in print materials (such as brochures), but probably not in letterhead or business cards. Bonus points if it works in both color and grayscale.
Also, we've been using green and gray in our materials (the colors of grass and asphalt), but don't feel constrained to those colors - if you've got a good idea, we'd like to see it!
