Art & Design
We write children's books
What's your vision?
We're after a series of simple, bright and colorful, line-art drawings to illustrate a children's book. The emphasis is on speed and simplicity - the drawings need to be very natural and not excessively re-worked. The book is being published as an e-book only. The book itself is only 364 words, and has 8 simple illustrations, one of which will be used for the cover.
Buttersect and Infly: A Love Story It was a crispy cold morning in the middle of Spring. Tulips filled the garden with splashes of yellow, red and deep purple. The rich perfume of Jonquils filled the air, along with fleeting sniffs of Daphne. [ Illustration 1: Butterfly with large gray wings flying between yellow, red and deep purple tulips, Jonquils and Daphne. Butterfly has small love hearts on her antennae] Buttersect flitted from flower to flower, slurping the nectar in each one. ‘Mmmmmm!’ she said appreciatively, ‘these tulips taste deeeee-licious!’ She rested for a moment on a petal as she wiped nectar from her mouth, her chin and from her two pairs of large, gray wings. [ Illustration 2: Butterfly with large gray wings slurping nectar from a tulip and getting nectar all over her, saying Mmmmmm ] The only thing missing, she thought, was someone to share this wonderful day with. [ Illustration 3: Butterfly sitting on flower, looks up to see a shimmering green/rainbow fly, flying fast overhead ] As she thought, she glimpsed a sparkle of light as a bug zoomed overhead with incredible see-through wings that shimmered green and rainbow. Curious, she took off as fast as she could and chased the bug. [ Illustration 4: Butterfly chasing fly ] She only caught up because the bug landed on a flower - it was so faaaaast! ‘Hi!’, she said in a rush. ‘Nice wings! Oh! And cool color scheme too’, she added, glancing down at the bug's black body. ‘Um, I'm Buttersect, what's your name?’ [ Illustration 5: Butterfly landing next to fly on a flower, saying Hi! ] ‘Hi yourself!’, grinned the bug, as he tried (unsuccessfully!) to wipe the nectar dripping from his chin. ‘I'm Infly. Do you live around here?’ ‘Yes, well, I've only been here three days since leaving home’, replied Buttersect. ‘Same here!’ said Infly with surprise. [ Illustration 6: Butterfly and Insect sitting on flower, smiling/chatting animatedly ] They talked and talked, and got along so well that they chatted late into the afternoon. They found each other to be funny, intelligent, caring, and they shared a fondness for nectar. [ Illustration 7: Sunset, Butterfly and Fly holding hands (3!) ] As the sun set, Infly turned to Buttersect. ‘Would you like to get married and have kids? It's just that, well, our lifetime is only very short, and I'd like to spend the rest of it with you!’ Wow! Buttersect didn't have to think for very long. ‘I do!’ she whispered, and jumped into Infly's six waiting arms with a happy tear in her eye. So Buttersect and Infly were married, and lived the rest of their lifetime together. They had two beautiful children. And do you know what their children were called? [ Illustration 8: Butterfly and Fly with their two children ] Butterfly and Insect of course! And they both loved nectar. The End.
