Help A-Squared With A Wedding Invitation
Check out Amy.blaszyk's Card or invitation contest…
We're a pair of crazy fiancees that thought crowd sourcing our wedding invites would be more fun -- and produce far more creative results -- than a visit to any of the stores that sell predictable designs. Our audience is a fabulous group of family and friends that would fully expect us to pull this kind of stunt. The end goal? With any luck, we get married.
What's your vision?
OBJECT We are planning to marry in October and would love some expert help in creating a design for our invitation suite. As with any wedding, we are on a tight budget, but we are not finding anything we love at the stores aiming to appeal to the masses. We will be putting the invitations together ourselves using card stock purchased online, and are looking for: -- A one-sided invitation (5" x 7" landscape or horizontal), -- Coordinating RSVP card (3 1/2" x 4 7/8" landscape or horizontal), -- Passing design elements for use with enclosures (info card, directions, etc.). Basically, an invitation suite: http://pinterest.com/pin/334251603563992493/. We’d also love your idea on a save-the-date WHO WE ARE A fun-loving couple (and the creative force behind wetheeaters.com, the logo for which was sourced here on 99designs), who volunteer often, enjoy the outdoors, a glass of wine on the roof deck, as well as good food and music. GET A FEEL FOR THE EVENT The wedding is in Virginia on October 19th, will be entirely outside, surrounded by fall color and overlooking farmland. The “theme” of the event is “vintage rustic charm.” We’ll be using burlap and stainless steel, incorporating some milk-painted pumpkins and moss, big blooms in muted tones, and mason jars with twinkle lights. There’s lot’s more rustic fun, like a pig roast for the rehearsal dinner, a bonfire meet-and-greet, and a lemonade stand with herbal infused waters at the ceremony. COLORS: -- Envelopes are kraft/paper bag brown with chocolate brown "ink" for addressing -- Enclosure is chocolate brown, tri-fold style as linked below -- Lining/invite border is "chartreuse" (according to Paper Source link below), most similar to avocado in color -- Actual invite will be on ivory, we envision chocolate or a slate grey type with the avocado accents -- but open to other ideas -- RSVP card, direction and info cards will be in the avocado (chartreuse) color DESIGN: Please ... no hearts, flowers or bows! Small use of single heart is okay, but we prefer simple designs with maximum impact. That said, we do like the creativity in using different elements of our day, like the mason jars, wine barrels, post-and-rail-fence, tree, leaves, acorns, etc. -- but they are not necessary for us to like what you submit. We gravitate toward use of unique fonts, a killer ampersand and mixing up the orientation of words and dates. Something different catches our eye, but incorporating that with simplicity and elegance will keep our interest! WORDING Invite: (please feel free to mix it up and add stuff -- this is just for basic guidance and to give all submissions similar language, critical when Moms & Dads take a look!): -- Together with their families -- Amy & Adam -- Request the honor of your company in celebrating their marriage -- October 19th, 2013 @ 4:30 in the evening -- Stanley, Virginia -- Other fun stuff like, "Bring your dancing shoes -- dinner and music immediately following ceremony" OR "Food, drink and merriment to follow" OR "Ceremony Cocktails Music Dinner Dancing" are all welcome. Also we LOVE: "Come for the wedding, stay for the weekend" RSVP: -- Please, no "number of guests" -- M __________________ is fine, another treatment preferred -- "Name(s)" does not work! As we plan to invite singles as single, we need to as that no place with options be used as it may confuse guests. -- We are in favor of fun language, like "will celebrate with you" and "will celebrate in spirit", but we are TOALLY game for something like "Will be there with bells on!", "Will attend, sans bells." and "Will not attend, has bell phobia. Sends regrets." -- Please respond by September 15th, 2013 Save the Date: -- Amy & Adam -- Save The Weekend -- October 19, 2013 -- Stanley, Virginia OTHER ELEMENTS WE’RE USING Tri-fold enclosure in chocolate: http://www.paper-source.com/cgi-bin/paper/color/A7-folder-invitation-enclosure/2506.004/845.html. Border and paper for invite itself, in chartreuse and cream (under luxe, I think) respectively: http://www.paper-source.com/cgi-bin/paper/color/A7-note-cards/2505.040/204.html When the trifold is open, with the small flap to the left and the pocket to the right, the chartreuse is attached to the main invite area in the middle to form an accent border, then the ivory is on top of that. The envelopes (think kraft paper): http://www.paper-source.com/cgi-bin/paper/color/A9-envelopes/2506.001/107.html, with this font for addresses to save money on calligraphy: http://www.fontspring.com/fonts/fenotype/mishka. Mishka is OpenType with 9 choices for each letter. BUT … we are open to other fun suggestions based on your design. INSPIRATION FOR YOUR DESIGN Below are two simple styles we liked for that ivory area. We LOVE the idea of a matching chartreuse ampersand in the design. Or a tree. We tend to lean toward very simple wording on the main invite. http://www.minted.com/product/wedding-invitations/MIN-8G5-INV/typewritten-heart http://www.minted.com/product/wedding-invitations/MIN-COH-INV/cocktail-hour http://www.paper-source.com/cgi-bin/paper/personalized/W144-119211301/detail.html http://www.minted.com/product/wedding-invitations/MIN-98Q-INV/dot-and-cross http://www.paper-source.com/cgi-bin/paper/personalized/W317-2012006208301/detail.htmlhttp://www.paper-source.com/cgi-bin/paper/personalized/W152-2011033208301/detail.htmlhttp://www.minted.com/product/wedding-invitations/MIN-K74-INV/bold-bracketsWe are also TOTALLY open to something more fun, as our Hollywood name -- A-Squared -- suggests (take THAT Brangelina!) This is what Paper Source had to offer in that vein: http://www.paper-source.com/cgi-bin/paper/personalized/W199-2012006208309/detail.html, and Minted: http://www.minted.com/product/wedding-invitations/MIN-K87-INV/farm-country?dcC=J. And these were things we liked from online (more style than shape): http://pinterest.com/pin/334251603564038009/ AND http://pinterest.com/pin/334251603563992645/. I could be easily convinced to do this style without the chartreuse border OR the raised ampersand and line the envelopes instead: http://pinterest.com/pin/334251603563992462/. This is for the RSVP card – we like the sentiments, not the style (and do not need the guest #): http://www.paper-source.com/cgi-bin/paper/personalized/W312-202202301/detail.html ... or this: http://www.paper-source.com/cgi-bin/paper/personalized/W316-202202301/detail.html. Like this style, but not “ingredients”: http://www.paper-source.com/cgi-bin/paper/personalized/W282-202202301/detail.html. Nice and simple: http://www.paper-source.com/cgi-bin/paper/personalized/W144-202202301/detail.html And ditto: http://www.paper-source.com/cgi-bin/paper/personalized/W129-202202301/detail.html We’d also love your ideas on “save the dates,” but definitely need some elements of your design for cohesion, like graphics of fonts. We were even thinking a fun film strip style from a photo booth with us holding signs in each frame revealing the big surprise and date. The trifold will be closed around this, with a couple strands of thin jute wrapped around it, and then have a wax seal with this stamp: http://www.paper-source.com/cgi-bin/paper/item/Tree-Interchangeable-Wax-Seal-Insert/3907.030/447758.html. Thinking silver or gold wax, but open to suggestion. This is a lot to digest, but wanted to be thorough! We will be doing the printing through my work’s print shop, and have decent capabilities in terms of color, images, etc. We are happy to get the stuff from Paper Source if you need to match up colors specifically, but if you know of another place – we are totally flexible. Please feel free to shoot me questions!
Just to be clear -- we are looking for a main invite design, as well as RSVP cards and your help with providing elements we can use in the printouts for guests, programs and save-the-dates. Everything guests see should have elements that work to pull the theme together.
