Musica Angelica Baroque Orchestra recreates what the opening night audiences of the Baroque Era heard: Bach, Mozart and Handel played on instruments authentic to the Baroqe era. Musica Angelica is an internationally renowned Baroque Orchestra. It is dedicated to the historically informed performance of Baroque and early Classical music on period instruments. Its programs include a mixture of known masterworks by composers such as Bach, Handel and Vivaldi, along with rarely heard ‘musical gems’ by lesser-known composers.
Our artists are internationally renowned musician/specialists. All of Musica Angelica’s musicians are specially trained to perform on these period instruments and there are only about 200 professional musicians in the U.S. who have this training. Many of the artists have performed, studied or taught at leading musical institutions, including Julliard, Carnegie Hall, the Boston Pops, Geneva University of Music, Walk Disney Concert Hall.
The artists have spent decades performing and perfecting their respective instruments, from the lute, to the oboe, violin, and more all over the world, including Europe, Asia, Australia, South America, and North America.
In between pieces, the artists perform entertaining vignettes on the historical time period referenced in their music and carry out mini discussions on the differences between these period instruments and modern-day ones.
Musica Angelica collaborates with leading performing arts institutions in Southern California including Los Angeles Opera, Long Beach Opera, the J. Paul Getty Museum, the Norton Simon Museum, and the Los Angeles Master Chorale.
