I am a writer and am looking for an ebook cover.
What's your vision?
Hi all, I have written an ebook and am looking for a professional looking cover, which will also look decent small (as in, on Amazon etc). As it's an ebook (at this stage), I don't need it to have a back cover. I do require it to be in RGB, and one version 600x800px in size. It would be good to also have a couple of versions bigger, but I'd like at least one image delivered in this size (I can resize myself, but just in case me trying to do this somehow ends in catastrophe). In terms of design concept, I have a relatively clear idea what I want but I'm no design expert (obviously), so if my ideas clash/aren't do-able or you want to tweak here and there, I'll be glad to have your expertise and input. Here we go... My book is about a girl who gets kidnapped by a beast from the underworld and the subsequent efforts of her fiance to get her back. Think horror-fantasy meets blockbuster. My idea for a cover relates to the scene where she is dragged to hell. It's down a dark laneway, grimy and the kind that when you walk past sends shivers up your spine. At the end of the laneway is an old stone bench seat, looking a bit worn and worse for wear. Sitting on that seat is a thing from hell. Only, it's dressed up in a trench coat and hat (dfedora or something) so it almost looks human. I don't want it sticking out like the proverbial but maybe you can see the shadow of a thorny tail hidden behind a leg (or along the seat)? Maybe some subtle cracked lava floor, or again maybe not - do what you can to make it look great. The thing from hell is holding either a) some coloured (almost bright) but sickly flowers or b) a black book with a bright swirl on the cover. The two options are because I like the flowers idea but I'm not sure that it won't look lame. The book is an element of the story. My idea with the colours is to draw in the eye. Also the edges of the book could be a little bit blurry like the edge of a magnifying glass, but take it or leave it for that part. Finally, I'd like my name in big at the top (I'm thinking dark green or dark honey yellow? but really whatever works with the colour scheme), possibly with some Metallica-esque (toned down, but you know the style - Google if you don't) spikes at the beginning and end of the name. Down the bottom, not as big, is the title. Name: Brendan Mays Title: An Act of Violence I'm not sure if this helps but I love the sharpness of HDR photography. As I said, it's just ideas and I'm counting on someone to dig deep into the darkest corner of themselves and pull out a winning cover that would scare Steven King! Many thanks in advance.
Please note the directions at the top - it's an ebook cover so CMYK is not allowed. Dimensions are also important. IF and when it ever gets to print (and for future work), it would be my goal to start a relationship and hopefully give the winning designer some well-earned work. Again, thanks again for your effort.
