ALICE IN WONDERLAND BACKDROP
We are restaging a beautiful production of Alice in Wonderland and updating our stage backdrop as we are now playing larger theatres and require a larger and more beautiful backdrop.
Dear Designers,
We are re-staging a beautiful production of Alice in Wonderland and updating our stage backdrop as we are now playing larger theatres and require a larger and more beautiful backdrop.
We have the line work drawn out for this backdrop. The line work is not to be changed. We just need color (please refer to the color examples), gradients, shadows, detail and definition added to it, so let your imagination run wild.
The backdrop is in two sections…
BACKDROP #1- The main backdrop
BACKDROP #2- The arch which will hang in front of the main backdrop
Both backdrops must be 10 meters wide x 6.5 meters high. The artwork file you produce MUST be large enough for printing.
You can download a larger file of the backdrop artwork outline below...

Please note the attached artwork is a scaled down size of the actual size we require.
Please find attached the following…
1. Artwork outline for BACKDROP #1 (PSD, PDF and JPEG File)
2. Artwork outline for BACKDROP #2 (PSD, PDF and JPEG File)
3. A copy of the SET DESIGN EXAMPLE (So you understand how the end product will look)
4. COLOR SAMPLE #1 (I LOVE how the style and texture of color has been used in this image... this is a great example!)
5. COLOR SAMPLE #2
I have attached two color samples. These are the colors we would like used in your work. Blue background (Light blue with dark blue shading). There should be a lot of gold color throughout the backdrop to contradict the blue background.
The colors used in Color Sample #1 are extremely elegant. We LOVE these colors. The idea is to create an elegant and beautiful backdrop with a Victorian era feel to it. Soft colors would work best. You may add a hint of “sunrise” colors to contradict the tones of blues used in the background.
The “Alice in Wonderland” logo should be gold and bold. Enchanting would be the best word to describe the design needed.
We would be happy to provide the winner of this competition with professional photographs of their artwork looking magnificent on the stage.
Best of luck and I can’t wait to see all of your designs.
Regards,
Ethan
You MUST use the artwork in BACKDROP #1 and BACKDROP #2 that has been provided. Please keep to the colors in the examples attached (blues and golds).
Do not edit the size of the circle on BACKGROUND #1 as it is already sized to the correct scaled down measurements.
We would love this design to have the essence of the original illustrations by John Tenniel in the original 1865 print of the book.
Tenniel's illustrations for Alice's Adventures in Wonderland were engraved onto blocks of deal wood. These engravings were then used as masters for making the electrotype copies for the actual printing of the books. The sketch line work is important in this design. The choice of colors and style you choose should reflect the Victorian era.
File for print: Preferred file would be a flattened PDF minimum 220dpi
