reinkcar got their new web page design by running a design contest:
berlinbag needs an engaging and inspiring webdesign
Check out reinkcar's Web page design contest…
berlinbag makes and sells customized bags. Shoulder bags, shopper, sleeves for all kinds of devices, backpacks for bicyclists. Every product could be customized with own pictures, colours and add-ons. Our target customers are urbanites (male and female) who want to express their individualism through their outfits and accessoires. Our typical customers has a university diploma, works in a creative surrounding, often carries his/her Macbook and all kinds of digital gadgets with him/her. Our customers care about a reasonable design, quality, eco-friendlyness and about fair working conditions. If they have money, they want to spend it thoughtfully and without doing harm to the world. The're often digital bohemians.
I love (and like the design to be inspired by): http://www.stickermule.com - mainly because of it's intro page that says it all. But also the flow is very good. Our competition is: http://www.rickshawbags.com - nice, down-to-earth, buddy-like design and appeal http://www.cays.de - don't like it that much, but they're an important competitor http://www.timbuk2.com - first-mover in self-styled messenger bags http://www.crumpler.com - communicates very the coolness and fun factor http://www.freitag.com - their marketing was good enough to bring their bags into the Museum of modern art (Moma) http://www.caseable.com - specializing in all kinds of sleeves
Page 1: Homepage. Eye-catcher, product into, how it works. navigation, news, social features. Main goal: generate interest in our products and customizing them and keep bouncing rates down (extremely important). Page 2: Configurator page. Make it fun to design your own bag. Sticky and easy. Main goal: Create engagement and joy of being your own designer. Plus: product info. Page 3: Shopping Cart page. Show what's in the cart with preview (see current berlinbag.com cart page). Edit quantities and delete items. Preview pricing and S+H costs. Page 4: Checkout page. Make checkout dead-easy. Single-page checkout process (see Stickermule). Page 5: Content page. A page the show textual or table-based information. See our current shipping costs page (http://www.berlinbag.com/site/shipping)
What to avoid
The customers shouldn't feel lost on our page. Avoid information overload. Avoid the feeling of buying a cheap or bling product. Avoid to over-accentuate the put-your-image-on-a-bag aspect: After all we want to be a design bag label with individual designs, not a crappy we-print-everything-onto-a-cheap-bag company. (The bags on our homepage are unfortunately currently the latter. Also very bad in that respect: http://www.cays.de). Avoid to cater only to one sex (Our current design generates extremely high bounces rates with male customers - which is extremely bad.)
Up until now we've made our bags mainly from truck tarp. In the future we will switch to more eco-friendly materials like eg. waxed canvas or Cordura. Each bag from berlinbag is built-to-order at our facilities in Berlin, Germany, under fair conditions. Our current website is far too "cold", "neutral" and "technical" (and semi-pro). We want to switch to a far more organic, emotional and inspirational design. We want our customers to be able to identify with our values, designs and the people we show on the page. (So real people are not a bad idea.) We want to communicate the spirit of Berlin (creative, hip, sexy, laid back). And our product values (individual & creative, handmade & quality, "fits my needs", "down to earth", "i'm the designer"). Our logo needs to stay unchanged, or only evolved, not revolutionized. Our site will be powered by Spree Commerce (www.spreecommerce.com).
Every design category has flexible pricing for all budgets. Web page design starts at $599.
