Actor's Express got their new web page design by running a design contest:
Creative Theater Website, Optimized for Conversion - Actor’s Express, Atlanta, GA

Community & Non-Profit
Actor's Express is a professional nonprofit theatre located in Atlanta, Georgia. We produce new plays and musicals as well as the occasional classic. Our productions range from daringly provocative to audaciously hilarious. Our target audience is arts and culture enthusiasts. Most are well-educated, affluent Atlantans. We have a strong LGBT audience.
We would like a modern website utilizing flat UI design with an artistic edge. Our website should be based on a grid that can easily scale with a responsive design. Our hope is that as many of the page elements as possible can scale fluidly instead of snapping between breakpoints. Our logo is black and green, and the green has become synonymous with our brand. We like the idea of experimenting with super-brights, but want to be careful to complement the green. The most important part about our website is that users can clearly follow a path to learn about a show and click to buy tickets. The structure of content and clear calls to action are integral for our ability to drive ticket sales.
What to avoid
We do not want a site with a black or dark background. We would like to limit the use of image sliders, but also understand the need to display performance photos in an easy to use gallery. We do not want a social widget showing our most recent posts to Facebook or Twitter.
We are a theater and want to inspire discussion around our work. Social icons can be used throughout the website, and we would like to prompt site visitors when appropriate to share with their friends or engage in a discussion.
