heather H3n got their new web page design by running a design contest:
Design a simple and modern look for new online environmental software
Check out heather H3n's Web page design contest…
We are a specialist consultancy that focuses on environmental impact assessment across Australia. We are developing online software to help our clients comply with their environmental approvals (record and track approval conditions, produce reports). Our clients range from small through to large organisations across the resources, infrastructure and residential development sectors. We want a new design for two pages of the software tool. For clarity, we do not want our current website (openlines.com.au) to be re-designed.
We're after a design of a dashboard and a "form" page that is modern, simple and uncluttered. We would like the designer to use a limited colour palette. A maximum of five colours would be good to keep it simple. We don't want to use greens as this colour is over-used in the environment sector! We would like to use icons for navigation in place of, or in addition to text, to keep the page simple and streamlined. We think that photography or illustration may clutter the information on the "form" page, but could be used if the designer thinks it will make it more modern or improve the appearance.
We would like a two pages designed. One is the dashboard and the other is the detailed 'Condition compliance' page. A basic mockup of the condition page is attached (the red 'MMG' attachment). This is attached to help you understand content only and not the type of design we're after. CONDITION COMPLIANCE The page we would like designed will be a form for our clients to easily record detailed information relating to a single legal requirement (e.g. condition of approval). There are a large number of fields which need to be on the page. We would like the designer to think about the best way each field could be presented (i.e. dropdown, text box, container, table, pop up window) The fields we need included, and a description of their purpose are as follows: - condition: describes the individual legal requirement - tasks: records tasks/actions undertaken by the client to carry out the condition. This may have images, documents, dates or personnel linked to each task -timing: each condition will have a timing requirement -responsibility: each condition will need to be assigned to someone -legal basis: each condition is linked to a specific approval or piece of legislation - project phase: each condition may be related to a specific project phase (e.g. design, construction, operation) -status: each condition will need to have a status assigned to it (i.e. active, complete, on hold, overdue, not started) -dependencies: each condition may have a range of other conditions it is dependent on for activation or completion -documents: each condition may have a range of documents associated to it (i.e. approval documents, engineering designs) -outcomes: there will need to be a field where evidence of compliance with the condition can be recorded. This may be a description of the outcomes, photos or documents. The page will also need to have a navigation bar that includes links and possibly drop-down menus to other 'pages' of the website. For the example page the other pages could be (for example): dashboard; documents; reporting; login. DASHBOARD We would also like a design for a dashboard for the software. The attached 'Harvest' screen shot provides an example of the sort of style or layout that we like for a dashboard page. The content for this page is less resolved. But it should aim to provide an overview of the key information for each project. E.g: -conditions due this month -recent activity -overall project status -recently added documents -high risk conditions
What to avoid
We don't want to use green in the colour palette or any non-Australian environmental images. We also don't want it to look too similar to other available compliance software (here's a list http://www.capterra.com/sem/compliance-software?gclid=COjKtpzDmcwCFQukvQodL7wJMA)
We are yet to choose a name for our App, and therefore do not have a logo for it. For the design you could just use a simple logo with the word COMPLYWITHIT. The "logo" should be included on each page. We have attached mock-ups of the two pages we are requesting for design. We feel that our design is a little too "boxy" and too cramped. It would be better if the client could scroll down the page to see the various fields. We have also attached images of the three websites we like the design of (which we provided in the visual style section:harvest, basecamp and our own business page).
