Art & Design
ArtSocial is a social experience which brings together a fun and entertaining painting class with wine and music in a restaurant or wine bar atmosphere. Our classes are engineered around being a socially interactive girls night out which gives the added bonus of taking home your work of art. Our instructors are all professional artists who teach step by step the process of painting a Monet, Van Gogh or other master work while participants sip on wine, grab a bite to eat and listen to some popular tunes.
Looking for one of two possible design directions. One one hand we like a more sophisticated and elegant appearance using script like fonts and a tiffany blue color with lots of negative space and neutral colors. Think elegant like Tiffany and Co. The other design possibility centers around more fun and energizing creativity. Bright colors in the logo like in the Google or eBay logo with some understated elegance as well but a bit higher tempo if you will. As you can see from the description of what we do, anything with brush strokes, wine, paint like textures, artistic renderings, freestyle drawings, etc. Get a little whimsical if you want. We thought about incorporating some really elegant female stick figures to lend some humor to the site and express that you don't have to be an artist to have fun in our classes but being able to draw a stick figure is advisable. Our customer base is 95% female and probably 60% between the age of 25 and 35, 25% age 36 to 46, 15% older.
Home page: Introduce the visitor to our concept and business. Provide links to; Classes, Store, Private Events, Partner Possible graphic with elegant long-limbed stick figures painting, drinking, toasting, listening to music, chatting and laughing. Possible to do in cartoon style with pages being flipped to make figures move. Classes: Get some inspiration from the website paintnite.com in their "event calendar" section. This page needs to project the same information in a very intuitive and easy to understand format. Some forethought in design for mobile devices for this page is important! Store: We will sell some art supplies and kits, clothing items (hats, aprons, etc) so any typical ecommerce type layout for a products page that stays with the theme of the site. Private Events: Same design as other secondary pages. Will want a narrative of what private events are and a gallery of images taken from events we have conducted. Main component of this page will be a form for submission to receive additional information. Form contents to be determined. Partner: To be determined at a later date and not as important at this stage of development.
What to avoid
Several competing companies and their web designs should be avoided. Most are either very childish in nature or just plain bad design. We want to stand out from the rest as the elegant and sophisticated painting class that emphasizes the social experience as a whole. Avoid sites like; wineandcanvas.com, paintingwithatwist.com, pinotspalette.com, colorsandbottles.com and paintandpals.com
Please look at the competitors websites to get a feel for how we want to differentiate from them with a design that is simple, elegant, sophisticated and clean. Mobile devices play an increasing role for our customers and the ability to view our class schedules on a phone or tablet will be important in winning our business. We use a registration system which the website will be pulling the class data from (picture of the painting, instructor name, location, seats remaining, etc.) We will be doing a new facebook page and some print materials as well as a new email template so the winning designer will be getting additional business from us. Thanks for taking the time to give us your best!
