aaronklaw got their new web page design by running a design contest:
Internet/Tech law firm needs new website
Check out aaronklaw's Web page design contest…
Attorney & Law
We’re an Internet law firm; a stylish Internet law firm. To us, design is just as important as technology; the two go hand-in-hand. So, in terms of a website, we’d like it to both exude our technological and legal expertise in a simplistic yet sexy, design-forward manner. The site should scream “innovative, effective and efficient.” Now that we’ve taken care of that, here’s the stuff you really want to know about us: We’re laid-back law-tech nerds who spend way to much time in our startup incubator office (think multiple TVs, couches, x-boxes). We love design and technology. We advertise on Thebestdesigns.com, and get really excited when we read the latest on Smashing Magazine or Wired. We're influenced by music (Massive Attack, Swedish House Mafia, NIN, Paul Van Dyke, Yanni – just kidding about the last one…just wanted to make sure you were still with me). We have a sense of humor, love internet memes and use them in advertisements. We work in a creative environment that informs the creative solutions we provide to our clients. Our mantra is innovation and efficiency. Online tools like Basecamp, Skype , gtalk, and oggchat play a major role in our firm’s communication model, and therefore should be incorporated into the website, pretty please. You can check out the site: http://www.aaronkellylaw.com from there you can navigate to my practice areas to see what we do.
http://www.aaronkellylaw.com as well as our blog (which we want to integrate with this site) http://kellylawblog.com
http://www.springhouselaw.com/ I like how this doesn’t look like a law website. I like the modern feel, illustrations and the buttons/icons. http://www.stonehengeveterinaryhospital.com/ I like the boldness of the text and the flow of the page. http://kettlenyc.com/ I like the large font and the contrast. http://sproutlet.io/ The colors, large graphic and call-to-action button are great. The color contrast in the blog section using different colors for the I and O is killer. Overall look and feel is fantastic. http://www.radial.gr/en/ Love, love, love the large text in the middle and overall simplicity. http://www.ifrahlaw.com/ Clean, concise, lovely. http://www.nysdwi.com/ Others have expressed displeasure with this site, but I LOVE the big bold lettering, and the look and feel. http://www.bka.net/ Love this site. It incorporates everything I like. Large Fonts, clean layout, and crisp graphics. http://www.mofo.com/ I like the bar on the side that scrolls with recent news. I also just think the site is awesome.
Make sure to check out my site: http://www.aaronkellylaw.com to get an idea of what I do. Overall, I'd like a site that integrates warm/neutral colors with a clean and modern feel. My logo is my brand, and is how I am identified in all mediums. I like the colors of my current site, but am open to others. That being said, I’m not wild about going dark. It should be a marriage of stunning visuals and effortless navigation – I don’t want people to have to “think” when they arrive at the site. In other words, please no “mystery-meat” navigation….you know, the kind where you have to poke around to figure out what things do. The site should also allow for a lot of content, or at least the ability to navigate to content easily. I’m allergic to standard law firm website designs; I beg of you, please don’t make it look like one of “those.” Actually, if I see any freaking gavels or scales of justices or other trite symbols, I may just have to punch myself in the face. At the end of the day, I'm really a tech firm and startup company. How many page do you need designed for your website? Two pages: A kick-ass homepage and a flexible inner page. We will be converting the site into a Wordpress theme, so any ideas about modulizing are welcome. Describe each page and what you want. Navigation Below are some ideas for the primary navigation, but feel free to make suggestions or changes. I open to ideas. Home, About, Practice Areas, Resources, Articles, Blog, Contact Us Home Page Specifics If you look at my current site the navigation is a mess. My bounce rate is high (72%) because people get on the site and don’t know where to go to find information or contact me. I utilize several ways to contact me (contact form, chat button, etc). So I want it to be easy to find information but done so in a visually appealing manner. I also need more places to put information and text. For SEO purposes I want to have a lot of dyanamic content ,as well as one area that will be static. This can be broken down however you want, but I dont like how on my page right now the giant flash sequence takes up the page and doesn't offer any seo value. Contact form Specifics Contact form on the right side that is for people to immediately fill out if they want to contact me. Need to ask: Full Name, Email, Phone Number, Summary of Issue. Possibly either a checkbox, or a disclaimer that is hyperlinked to a disclaimer page. Design Element Must Haves • Top right search box, as well as something for clients to click on to login to their client portal. • Easy to see signup for my newsletter • iphone/android app download area • A 4-5 slide jQuery slider with both images and text. The slider will have a mix of what our firm is about as well as recent articles. • Maybe a tag cloud somewhere? If you think it fits. BONUS POINTS: I’d love a great tagline incorporated on the site. Probably in the header. If you can think of one and design a great graphic to accent it…I’ll love you forever. (For Example: I love http://www.vancouverconventioncentre.com/ - and the tagline “It would be un-Canadian of us to brag, so we’ll let this video do it for us” is genius. I covet a smart-ass tagline like that.) I like BIG TYPOGRAPHY. Not like “WE LIKE YELLING AT YOU’ but make a bold statement. Something witty. Can be throughout the page to introduce sections or on the jquery (which my coders are coding) Technical Specs We’ll be converting to a Wordpress theme, using the latest platforms and languages including CSS3, HTML5 and Jquery. My main practice areas are internet law, internet marketing law, advertising/marketing, mobile law, and business startups. You can get a good feel by going to my website.
As a special offer, I will give ANYONE who submits a design (so long as it looks like you tried) a free consult. I normally charge for consults, but to reward your hard work I will be happy to give you a free consult after the contest is over. You may contact me via skype (aaronkellylaw) or gtalk (email@example.com) if you have any questions. Also the winner will likely receive a lot more work, as everyone who I've ever dealt with on here has continued to work with me. You’re my target audience. I represent developers, designers, internet marketers, affiliate marketing companies, SEO companies, hackers, coders – and anybody who runs a business with an online arm. I also represent new and interesting start-ups, people who have issues with defamation, or people who have ecommerce sites around the world. Most are younger with a fierce entrepreneurial spirit and like social media, clean graphics, information, and fast responses! After all, it’s an instant gratification world, baby! Our clients are skilled at making money and are constantly thinking outside the box. They’re used to normal websites. To catch their attention, the site will need something memorable – even if that just means an innovative, yet efficient, new navigation method (or a kick ass tagline….see, I told you I was obsessed with this).
