afit got their new web page design by running a design contest:
Keep Calm-o-matic needs a new website design
Check out afit's Web page design contest…
The Keep Calm-o-matic site allows site users to create their own images based on the 'keep calm and carry on' internet meme. Users can then purchase merchandise bearing their newly created image, view images other site users have created and buy a range of standard Keep Calm merchandise.
Some examples of other websites connected with Keep Calm are: http://www.keepcalmandcarryon.com/ http://www.keepcalmgallery.com/ http://www.barterbooks.co.uk/kc_history.php However these sites are mainly concerned with the history of Keep Calm or providing a shop window to purchase goods. Other sites that are similar in terms of the 'internet meme' theme would be: http://icanhascheezburger.com/ http://awkwardfamilyphotos.com/
The Keep Calm-o-matic is based around an internet meme - Keep Calm and Carry On. The main purpose of the website is to allow people to create images based on the original 'keep calm and carry on' poster, but with their own text, images and colours. Once a poster has been created, the user then has the option to buy merchandise such as t-shirts, mousemats or mugs with their own poster image automatically superimposed onto the product. Other aspects of the site include a gallery (with search facility) allowing visitors to see what images have been created by other site users. There are also pages describing the history of the original Keep Calm poster, a shop where merchandise based on the original keep calm poster can be purchased, and a page with developer tools and a Facebook App for people who wish to incorporate the Keep Calm-o-matic into their own websites. The current design is the original one we created myself when the site first launched. As such it is very plain and functional we need a new design that doesn't look so 'plain'. There are a few design considerations: - The site ought to have a similar footer to those on our other websites (see the footer at http://www.awdit.com/ for an example) - We're not fussed about colour schemes or backgrounds. Most similar websites related to Keep Calm go for a red theme, as that's the background colour of the original poster. - We could do with a logo for the site. Using the George IV crown image in some way for the logo would seem to make sense
