How richscannell started their web page design journey
Who are you known as?
Mary Brun Photography Collection
Tell us a bit about who you are and the people you reach
Mary Brun was a relative of mine who was an avid amateur photographer. Upon her passing I took on a project of digitally scanning her 35mm slides. My goal is to publish her 15,000 images to a website that will allow the user to view/search the collection. I do not expect to monetize the collection, just publish it.
Search criteria will include things like category (i.e. people, landscapes, wildlife, cities, etc), when the photo was taken, and where it was taken. The collection includes images from 1954 through 1998.
I am a software developer by trade but lack the artistic skill to give the site the professional polish it deserves. I need help with the general look & feel, the website color palette, and (most importantly), the header/logo for the site.
What industry do you think your business is most related to?
What do you have in mind for the style and theme of the web page?
A modular design that places the focus on the photographs. Little space will be needed for image description since details on each image is limited.
Page 1 (Home) - Provides first impression of website. Should allow for overview of collection and easy access to search of images.
Page 2 (Images) - List of images. User has ability to refine list of images with various search criteria.
What to avoid
Must function with recent versions of Chrome, Firefox, and IE 10. HTML 5, CSS 3, and JQuery all OK. No Flash please!
I've uploaded some sample images from the collection to give you an idea of what the collection of 15,000 images is like. While these are representative of her work, these are very low quality scane. The final published images will be high quality.http://www.brunphotography.com/SamplePhotos.zip
