Ethanbarhydt got their new web page design by running a design contest:
Web Design for Fashion Startup - Social Dresswork
Check out Ethanbarhydt's Web page design contest…
Social Dresswork is an online platform for women to rent dresses to one another on college campuses. Rather than spend $150 at a department store, they can get the same fashion-forward dresses on our site...for a tenth of the price. Our target audience is women in college, and we want to make our users feel like they're getting luxury and cutting-edge fashion even while paying less for it.
The design should be simple and clean while conveying that we are a fashion-forward company. For example, we could imagine a black/white color scheme (see the inspirational websites below for examples). In this case, the color/vibrancy of site would come from the dresses themselves (which are uploaded by our users). We also care a lot about finding effective fonts that fit with the design (a good site for fonts: http://www.fontsquirrel.com/).
The content of each page is shown on the attached wireframes (though you should feel free to reorganize the pages if you think there's a better way to do it). The details below describe the goal of each page. HEADER: this is on each of the 5 pages listed below. See the wireframes for the header content. HOME: features an image slider with fashion news and exclusive Social Dresswork photo shoots. Goal is to convey that we're fashion-forward and to spark interest in the site. BROWSE: shows all the dresses uploaded to the website (displayed like pinterest). The filters at the top help you find the dress you're looking for. This is all about visual appeal - the information about the dress doesn't display until you scroll over a dress. PROFILE: Includes a user's profile and her virtual closet of dresses. Women will check out each other's virtual closets and find their friends' profiles. CART: When women find dresses they like, they can add it to the cart. From the cart, a user can complete a dress rental transaction. VIEW DRESS: The dress page displays information about a single dress. Also includes a "reviews" section. Content shown in wireframe.
What to avoid
We're appealing to college women, so it's important to avoid the "teen girl" style (see http://www.teenvoices.com/ as an example of what not to do).
