joakim F got their new web page design by running a design contest:
Work with a promising startup that wants to change the world

We want to make carbon offsetting available to consumers by offering an easy and user-friendly way to calculate one's emissions and offset them by investments in wind plant programs. The investments will eventually lead to a cash return, thus making you money by contributing to a greener future. We want to make carbon offsetting a viral trend. There should be a strong focus on sharing and challenging. The website will include a calculator for calculating emissions, a blog with continuous updates about environmental issues & lifestyle tips and a dashboard for tracking your emissions and balance and comparing it with your friends. Our three big goals are to spread awareness of your emissions, make you offset your emissions and make you lead a more sustainable life. Thus our target audience includes people who are unaware of the environmental impact of our lifestyles, people who are interested in donating money to sustainability projects and people who are trendy and like to compete with their friends.
UPDATE: Some additional info after receiving quite a lot of drafts: - Do not feel limited to shades of green. It makes the website come across as sterile and "tech-y", ie non-approachable. - The design should be minimalistic, but not alienating. Customers should feel inclined to stay on the page. - We like the idea of having content hidden beforehand, and only revealed when needed. The style should be simple and approachable yet professional. Easy to use is a key all the way through. Examples of desirable style elements are pictures, simple illustrations and CTA buttons on all pages. Ability to read more by hovering over elements. We like the idea of a layout with only a few carefully selected elements that expand or reveal additional information when interacted with (for example hovered over). Maybe play with the idea of progression in colors. Since this site is about reducing pollution, elements could go from darker colors to greens and lighter colors as you go through the page. Get creative, we are open to ideas! It is very important that the website is scalable and looks good across all media platforms.
Page 1: Home A short explanatory text, an explanatory video, a centered call to action button, three columns showcasing three distinct features. About Information about the company, our goals and visions, and global warming in general. Page 2: Calculate A section where information is filled into forms in order to calculate CO2 emissions. As illustrated in the mockups, we would like a bar at the bottom of the form where you can see your emissions add up as you progress. At the end of the questionnaire the visitor is directed to a result page with a summary and call to action button. Please take a look at the wwf footprint calculator: http://footprint.wwf.org.uk/ Contact Contact information Page 3: Blog A clean and uncluttered layout with centered text and many images. As you hover to the right, we would like the side bar to appear and the text to move to the left. Please see mockups below. Page 4: Dashboard Summary of your emissions, offsets, balance etc. As you can see in the mockup, we would like to have a large line graph where you can compare your results to friends and country average. Also, the links provided on dashboards may give you an idea of the design ethic of this page: simple, clear yet professional Please see mockups below for a clearer idea of our vision of the layout.
What to avoid
Any unnecessary clutter. We want the content on each page to be centered and in focus. Inconsistency Going for a too industrial/un-approachable design
We want the website to be simple and uncluttered, yet easy to navigate through. A call to action button should appear on every page in order to convince visitors to sign up and become a member. Also, as you can see, we have some ideas on how the logo could be used with icons. These could be used as tabs for the questionnaire, links, CTA buttons etc.
